What is Get W.I.T.H. it!?
Get W.I.T.H. It! began as a grassroots initiative in Deep River, Ontario in 2007. Since that first year Get W.I.T.H. It! has been launched in many communities across Ontario and beyond.
Get W.I.T.H. It! is all about community -- the W.I.T.H. stands for Walking In The Halls. The ‘halls’ are those that already exist in a community, typically found in a school or larger building. The mission? To provide community members with a warm, safe place to stay active during the winter. Being physically active can be challenging at the best of times, let alone during the colder, darker days of winter.
A key success factor is that there are no barriers to participating because everyone is welcome! There are no limitations or requirements. A variety of walking routes that vary in intensity from easy to difficult is built into the program. The Get W.I.T.H. It! program turns often empty halls into a bustling ‘place to be’ – building on community spirit while at the same time improving physical activity levels.
This program could also be a Heart Wise Exercise program, which means it meets the Heart Wise Exercise criteria.
